Internship Overview: The Central Florida Sports Commission (CFSC) employs student interns on a semester basis, as part of our efforts to offer meaningful educational and training experiences for those highly motivated students interested in a career in the sports and event industry. The sports commission also provides students with the opportunity to help extend our organization's event planning efforts by contributing their fresh and creative thinking, keeping sports commission programs and events progressive and cutting edge. CFSC internships are un-paid.

There is no standard day at the sports commission; however, interns can expect to be involved in the following activities:

- Assist the 12-member sports commission staff in day-to-day operations.

- Assist the County Managers with the planning and execution of more than 80 events per year. Tasks will include, but not limited to: volunteer recruitment & tracking, venue logistics, transportation, merchandise tracking & sales, venue setup & breakdown, marketing & promotions, direct mail, hospitality and event reconciliation.

- Work with sports commission staff in generating research and background information on various sports organizing committees (e.g. USOC, NCAA, AAU) and the events open for bid internationally and nationally.

- Participate in a variety of meetings and planning sessions that support the sports commission's ongoing programs and upcoming events.

Skills required:  Practical knowledge and/or experience in one or more of the following areas: sports management, event planning, marketing and communications.

You should be able to demonstrate computer literacy in one or more of the following programs: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe Illustrator.

You should also have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. In particular, we are always on the lookout for the intangible qualities of motivation, enthusiasm, initiative and dedication.

Time requirements:  The Central Florida Sports Commission currently offers semester internships during the Spring, Fall and Summer terms.  Also, the number of interns employed each semester is based upon the corresponding amount of event activity for that semester, which varies.

While work schedules are flexible for interns, each student is required to work weekends, depending on the CFSC event schedule, and complete the number of hours required by his or her educational institution in order to earn the anticipated internship credit hours. Also, keep in mind that students applying for a sports commission internship position need not be currently earning credit at his or her school to be considered as a candidate.

You should also be aware that the Sports Commission requires a minimum time commitment of 20 hours per week for part-time interns and 40 hours per week for full-time interns, with additional hours required for those events held on weekends.
